The School Board of Education
The Board of Education is composed of five members, elected at-large. A president, vice president and secretary are selected from the board membership by a majority of the voting members.
Board of Education meetings are generally held on the first and third Tuesdays of each month except July. The meetings are held at the Educational Services Center, 610 Alta Vista Street, Santa Fe, NM 87505. The meetings usually consist of an Executive session beginning at 4:30 p.m. and a regular business meeting at 5:30 p.m.; the latter which is open to the public.
Those wishing to address the board are asked to fill out a public forum sign-in sheet, located in the doorway of the board room, prior to the beginning of the meeting.
Board meetings are held the first and third Tuesday of each month. An annual schedule of meetings is approved by the Board of Education at the last meeting in June and it is posted to the district website. All meeting agendas are posted 72 hours prior to each meeting. Regular Board meetings are open to the public.
Executive Sessions are closed to the public as allowed under the Open Meetings Act, Section 10-15-1 (H & I). A link to the Open Meetings Act Compliance Guide, which states what topics are allowable under Executive Session, can be found on the New Mexico Attorney General’s website here: http://www.nmag.gov/consumer/publications/openmeetingsactcomplianceguide All Executive Sessions of the Board of Education will be noticed as indicated in the guide.
Study Sessions are an official meeting of the Board of Education and are generally held dependent on need. Study Sessions are intended for the purpose of updating the Board of Education on specific topics, as related to district business. Generally, no action takes place at a study session, however, should there be a time sensitive item, the Board may be asked to take action during the meeting. Agendas for all study sessions are posted 72 hours in advance of the meeting and will notice any action that may requested of the Board. The annual schedule of Study Session dates is approved by the Board of Education at the last meeting in June and is posted to the district website.
Anyone needing a language interpreter or other special assistance at a board meeting is asked to contact the board secretary at 505-467-2003 prior to the meeting to arrange that service.
