SFPS Employment Process

Thank you for your employment interest with the Santa Fe Public Schools! This is a guide to our employment process and each of the four steps provides detailed information. Please review each step so you have a clear understanding of our employment process. 

Step One: Application

Once you have decided to apply for employment with SFPS, click on the link to the left, Apply Online Here (Applitrack),  to start your online application. 

To have a complete and active application, you must provide the following:  All questions on the online application must be answered completely. For certified openings, copies of the following should be uploaded with your application:
  • Licenses*
  • Test scores (e.g. Praxis)
  • Transcripts
  • Evaluations
  • List two (2) professional references (e.g. former supervisor) in your application.  Personal references (e.g. family member, friend, etc) will not be accepted.
*If you have a license from a state other than New Mexico or if you currently do not have a teaching license, please state that in your application. Please contact the New Mexico Public Education Department (PED) for detailed information.

Completed applications will be kept on file for six months

Step Two: Interviewing

Completed applications, which meet the job criteria, will be given consideration by the hiring manager. However, this does not guarantee an interview. A determination as to whether an applicant will be interviewed will be based on how well the candidate meets the job qualifications and requirements. If you are to receive an interview, the hiring manager or the Recruiting Department will contact you. 

Step Three: Hiring 

It is important to understand that only the Recruiting Department will make formal offers of employment. Any communication by either principals or interview committees suggesting employment, whether implicit or explicit, must be considered as a recommendation to employ only. It is not a job offer.

Once the hiring decision has been made, a member of the Recruiting Department will offer the candidate the position. 

Step Four: New Hire Orientation

All candidates who have accepted a position are required to attend New Hire Orientation prior to their first day of work. A hired candidate is not considered an SFPS employee until they attend New Hire Orientation. As part of the employment process, it will be necessary to complete a background clearance through the New Mexico Department of Public Safety and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

If you have been fingerprinted by the New Mexico Public Education Department within the last two years, you must sign a release form for those prints to be released to us. The cost for fingerprinting must be paid at the time employment paperwork is completed.

Once all necessary paperwork has been completed and documents have been cleared, Human Resources will send a clearance to your Principal or Supervisor and you will then be notified and be able to start work.
