A product of the Santa Fe Public Schools herself, Vanessa Romero is a seasoned educator with a demonstrated commitment to the children of her hometown. During her 14 year career in education, Ms. Romero has served in a variety of capacities and built a reputation as a strong instructional leader with the skills and knowledge to help teachers and principals meet the needs of our diverse student population. After a successful teaching career, Ms. Romero was selected as the assistant principal of Agua Fria elementary where she had an immediate positive impact on school operations and the school’s well-known dual language program. Soon after, she was asked to help lead a $3 million dollar school turnaround grant at Ramirez Thomas Elementary. After a brief tenure as principal at Salazar Elementary, Ms. Romero returned to Ramirez Thomas Elementary where she and the staff have continued to sustain reform efforts and see improvements in overall student achievement. RTE was recognized nationally in 2015, as a Model Professional Learning Community School; 2015, the Bilingual Education Bureau also recognized RTE for it’s effective bilingual multicultural education program. Their work in building professional learning communities was presented at the 2017 Annual National Council of Supervisors for Mathematics in San Antonio, TX.

Ms. Romero possesses her B.A. in Organizational Communication Studies and M.A. in Educational Leadership and Development, both from New Mexico State University.
