COLLEGE PLANNING TIMELINE
11th GRADE
- Coursework becomes more demanding and these grades count towards college admission and can help you get better/more financial aid.
- Enroll in dual credit courses or Advanced Placement (AP) classes.
- Continue extracurricular and or employment activities.
- Ask for letters of recommendation from teachers, coaches, employers, etc.
- Create a resume of your work experience, extracurricular activities and volunteer service.
- Check with your counselor to find out when recruiters will be visiting your campus and make sure to speak with them.
- Attend the local College Night program that SFCC hosts in October and continue visiting college/university websites.
- Develop a list of ten schools you would like to attend - dream big, but always include a New Mexico college or university.
- If you’re thinking about playing sports in college, register with the NCAA.
- Find out if the schools you are exploring offer scholarships and look at deadlines to apply.
- In the spring, register to take the ACT and or SAT tests in June (in the spring may even be better).
- Meet with your counselor about your senior schedule and make it count. You want to meet graduation requirements and take courses attractive to colleges for admission.
- Look into visiting some college campuses that you might be interested in attending.
- Research scholarships opportunities:
