Arts Integration initiatives support classroom teachers with high quality resources and strategies to integrate the arts into classroom instruction.

ALTO — Active Learning Through Opera
SFPS is a proud member of the Kennedy Center Partners in Education program. Under the guidance of the Santa Fe Opera, Santa Fe Public Schools works with Albuquerque Public Schools, and Rio Rancho Public Schools, to bring arts integration professional development workshops to northern New Mexico teachers.

Led by Kennedy Center Teaching Artists who have undergone rigorous training themselves, ALTO workshops are offered to district educators free of charge.

ALTO also sponsors a Residency Program in schools. Teaching artists are paired with classroom teachers for 8-week residencies that take place during the school day and help teachers meet their curricular needs through the arts.

Following national trends and the counsel of the Kennedy Center PiE program, ALTO will be moving towards focusing resources on a single school at SFPS. Over an extended period of time, teachers at the school site will receive in-class coaching and professional development to boost their capacity to lead arts integrated units. Stay tuned for more information as this program is piloted in 2019-2020!

ArtWorks

ArtWorks seeks to make the arts personally meaningful to elementary school students and teachers through an integrated program of art-making, viewing live performances and exhibits, and achieving understanding through inquiry and reflection. Among the programs sponsored by ArtWorks are professional development for teachers and a school partnership program.
