Recognizing that the arts play a unique role in boosting learning and achievement for children and youth, Santa Fe Public Schools has a long-standing commitment to high-quality arts education in the schools. Among our many arts programs is the Visiting Artist Program, funded primarily by community partner
ARTsmart.
SFPS’ Visiting Artist Program brings professional artists into art classroom-studios where they model and share their skills, imagination, and practice with students and teachers. Artists who complete a brief application, including a project proposal, are eligible to participate. Visiting artists are encouraged to teach from their own area of studio expertise and passion.
The Visiting Artist Program connects children, youth, and faculty directly with professional artists and contemporary artistic practice. The program also introduces skills, media, and concepts that students might not study otherwise. It exposes students to diverse cultures and new aesthetic frameworks, and it acquaints young people with potential careers in art and design fields.
