About Full-Day Pre-K

About Full-Day PreK

Full-day PreK programs are currently available at six schools:

  • Atalaya Elementary

  • Cesar Chavez Elementary

  • Nina Otero Community School- there are two full-day programs here

  • El Camino Real Academy

  • Ramirez-Thomas Elementary

  • Tesuque

Children must be 4 years old on or before August 31st of the given school year to be eligible for PreK.

The Full-Day PreK programs are open to students through a randomly selected lottery.  Families apply to attend any full day PreK program in the district, including one that is outside their neighborhood school zone.

To participate in the program, children must be four years old on or before August 31st of the upcoming school year. Full-day sessions take place from approximately 8:00 a.m to 3:00 p.m. Transportation is available to children attending PreK in their neighborhood school zone. Parents must transport their children to PreK classes not in their neighborhood school.

The PreK lottery application period will run in early 2017; more information will be posted as it becomes available.

  • Being among the first to apply does not increase your chances of getting our child into the school of your choice.

  • A completed application is not a guarantee of placement in the school of your choice.

  • After the PreK year children will attend Kindergarten at the school for which they are zoned unless families apply for transfer to another school, including the one attended in PreK.

Parents' completion of the online application (computers are available at schools for parent use) enters the child into the full day lottery. After completing the online application parents should take the child's birth certificate or proof of age documentation to the school of their choice or any school in the list above. This document will be scanned and saved. Once a child's immunization records are verified by the school nurse the application process is complete.

Completion of the application is not a guarantee of placement into a full day program, but does enter the student into the lottery. The lottery drawing will be late March or early April.

Families that do not get a space in the full-day program are encouraged to apply for a Half-Day PreK.

Santa Fe Public Schools offers provisional acceptance to the PreK programs pending legislative funding.  Those families admitted to the PreK programs on a provisional basis will receive official notice of their enrollment prior to the close of school in the spring.
