The mission of the Mujeres de Adelante Women’s Cooperative is to support and empower mothers of families experiencing homelessness. This is accomplished by providing space, materials and crafts training with which to generate income, as well as training in marketing and business development. Beyond increased financial literacy and income, this work serves to break down barriers women facing homelessness perceive and experience in the community. Ultimately, the Cooperative works to instill the skills and confidence women need to be versatile and resourceful in providing for their families.
The Mujeres are currently making beautiful upcycled tote bags out of coffee sacks donated by Ohori’s Coffee. The bags can be found at the Santa Fe Farmers Market Mercado, Ohori’s Coffee, Santa Fe Hemp, and at various craft fairs around town. The Mujeres also make handmade natural soaps, aprons and other items. Cooperative members are available for sewing projects and alterations, as well as childcare, housekeeping and other such jobs.
