Medications at School

Medications at School

If possible, medications should be given at home.

If it is essential that a student receive medication during the school day, the school nurse, nurse aide or other trained staff may administer the medication as long as the appropriate consent forms are provided, including a doctor’s order. Please contact your school nurse if your child needs medicine at school. DO NOT send medication to school with your child. Parents or guardians must personally deliver medications to the school nurse in their original container, and sign required consent forms which may include a physician’s order. If over-the-counter (non-prescription) medication is needed more than 3 times, a written order from a health care provider is required.

Emergency medications like inhalers and Epi-Pens may be carried by the student; however, provider orders and additional paperwork are still required. Please see your school nurse.
