Puberty, the Wonder Years is a nationally recognized puberty education program, adopted by our district in 2016. At SFPS, this curriculum is taught by School Nurses.

The goals of this curriculum are:

Promote appreciation and respect for the amazing changes experienced by self and others.
Equip children with the skills they need to postpone sexual intercourse.

By teaching children about the wonderful ways they are maturing, adults can promote a positive attitude toward sexuality that helps children grow into healthy, responsible adults.

Children who have talked to their parents and other trusted adults are more likely to understand the changes they are going through and are able to avoid risky behavior.

This curriculum emphasizes parents/guardians and other trusted adults as valued sources of information about puberty and healthy decision making. Participating students will be encouraged to talk to their parents/guardians about growing up and to ask questions.

This program utilizes a consent form and parents or guardians have the option to allow their child(ren) to participate, or not. This form will be sent home by the school prior to the delivery of the curriculum.
