Yesterday, students from Santa Fe High, Capital High, Early College Opportunities (ECO), and Mandela International Magnet School joined forces in the Governor’s School Community Challenge! They took to the parks of our beautiful city - SWAN, Ragle, Villa Linda, and Salvador Perez - to tackle the pressing issue of litter.
A special shoutout to the Naval JROTC team from Santa Fe High, who collected over 60 bags of trash at Salvador Perez Park, earning them a trophy and a $1,000 prize! Congratulations also to the mixed team from Capital High and other schools who took a proud second place, and cheers to the teams from the Boys & Girls Clubs and Santa Fe High for tying in third place.

Congratulations to Capital High School’s two Supercomputing teams for completing the 34th New Mexico Supercomputing Challenge! Scooby, the Robotic Gunshot Detection System created by Capital students, took home two awards – Judges Special Award for Computational Engineering and the Community Impact Award! Additionally, Team Scooby became a state finalist. All participating Capital High seniors received generous scholarships from the challenge.
Last week, Capital High School seniors walked the halls of their old schools to see former teachers and inspire students. This week, it's Santa Fe High School's turn! SFHS seniors visited their elementary and middle schools, hugged their former teachers and staff and brought excitement to the students who are growing up behind them!

A 100 percent anonymous Safe Surrender Gun Buyback will be held on Saturday, May 11, from 9 a.m. to noon, at the Santa Fe Municipal Court, located at 2511 Camino Entrada.
The drive-through transformative effort to reduce gun violence, sponsored by New Mexicans to Prevent Gun Violence in partnership with the city of Santa Fe, First Judicial District Attorney's Office and Santa Fe Police Department, will exchange guns for gift certificates of $100, $200 or $250.
Capital High's 7th annual College and Career Commitment Day was full of conversations with local colleges and organizations, good food, music and lots of fun.
Capital High School seniors revisited their old stomping grounds - El Camino Real Academy, Ramirez Thomas Elementary, Sweeney Elementary, Ortiz Middle, Cesar Chavez Elementary and Nina Otero Community School - today during their senior parade and were celebrated and embraced by teachers and younger students.
First graders at Kearny Elementary were joined by Executive Chef Erica Tai from Alkemē and Taleia Monty from Cooking with Kids. Chef Tai shared her Taiwanese heritage and how she incorporates it into her cooking. Together, they made Mediterranean hummus, flatbread, and tomato and cucumber salad.
Congratulations to Mandela International Magnet School, Capital High School and Santa Fe High School for ranking in the U.S. News and World Report's top 30 high schools in New Mexico. Mandela ranks third in the state, followed by Capital at 15th and Santa Fe High at 30th. SFPS schools are shining stars! We are delighted to see these three schools get recognition as statewide standouts.

For a third year, SFPS is offering innovative, free summer programming across the district in June and July. "We're looking forward to once again offering a multitude of exciting opportunities for students to stay engaged with their learning and have fun!" said Superintendent Hilario "Larry" Chavez.
Twenty-five programs will be offered at 13 sites, with breakfast and lunch included. Offerings range from Math Adventure Camp, to Go Kart Camp, to Rock Camp, to Spanish Splash, to credit recovery.

Early College Opportunities High School (ECO) opened its new, renovated building to the public at a ribbon-cutting celebration on Thursday, April 18th. The celebration showcased new spaces for classrooms, a science laboratory, a maker’s space, workrooms for teachers and a large commons area with a media center.

Santa Fe Public Schools (SFPS) thanks volunteers for generously giving their time during the 2023-24 school year. SFPS has 795 active volunteers who have worked 17,944 service hours this school year. Nearly 6,000 of these hours were tutoring students in reading, math and various core subjects. This year, there was also an increase in volunteer support for STEAM activities, mentoring and overall school site support. SFPS volunteers are a vital piece of our community.

150 students from 11 schools participated in a mock Legislative Session at the Roundhouse. Santa Fe High School (SFHS) students worked diligently for months to draft bills and practice their debate skills. Though SFHS students’ bills were either vetoed or didn’t make it to the Governor’s desk, SFHS took home two of the highest awards: Best Representative – Florian Stricks and Best Senator – Landen Kessler. Congratulations, SFHS students!
