Mission Statement
Engage volunteers who work to ensure student success through supporting District and school goals.
Purpose
The purpose of the SFPS Volunteer Program is to provide support to students by utilizing the skills and interests of our volunteers. Volunteers are a true asset to our school district and increase the student-to-adult ratio, which impacts overall student success.

*Important Note: All volunteers, independent contractors, sub-contractors and staff of partnering organizations and businesses are required to complete the entire 3-step volunteer application process.

Approval Process
The application requires you to provide following information:
*Employment/volunteer history working with children or students
*Two personal or professional references
*Interested applicants under the age of 18 find information by clicking Getting Started as a Volunteer FAQs button located above.
*Note: To maintain an active volunteer status, all approved volunteers will complete annual renewal requirements. This includes the SFPS Returning Volunteer: Notice of Intent form and the updated SFPS Volunteer Training & Resource Course. See the Policies and Procedures section below for details.

*Effective May 1, 2023, the State of New Mexico launched an updated background check process with a new fingerprint vendor, IDEMIA.
*Delays can result due to technicalities, which will be addressed by the volunteer coordinator on a case-by-case basis.
*Technical issues can include unreadable fingerprints, input error, machine malfunction or other issues.
*Out of state applicants find information by clicking Getting Started as a Volunteer FAQs button located above.
*Note: You will need to enter this agency ORI number NM931140Z indicating results are to be sent to SFPS Volunteer Program.
*You will receive an email confirming receipt of application.
*District staff will verify employment and references.
*Total processing time can be 2-4 weeks.
*Upon approval, you will be notified via email.
*Be sure to review the important information in the Volunteer Handbook.
